Meet the GLADS Family

Who hasn't known GB (Gladiator Beast)? Everyone who plays YuGiOh well must know this archtype. This archtype firstly started its debut from Gladiator's Assault booster pack several years ago. Furthermore, GB also gained several supports until it got its "boss" card, Gladiator Beast Gyzarus. However, banlist limited GB Bestiari and made this deck a little bit slower because you need to play your Bestiari carefully.

Okay, I think I am going to discuss some of potential cards in GB deck and also several examples of GB decks. Enjoy dude...

1. GB Laquari: this is the main striker in GB. Having the highest original attack among other GB's and its ability to contact fuse into GB Heraklinos, this card is a must in every GB deck. I personally suggest you to main 2 Laquaris in your deck. Three is just too much considering GB uses as less monster as possible, but it's still okay.

2. GB Bestiari: The spell/trap cards breaker. This card is a must too in GB, so you can summon GB Gyzarus. Please use this card carefully because you can only have one copy of this card in your deck. Just be careful with bottomless, prison, or D.D. Crow when it hits your graveyard.

3. GB Murmillo: The monster exterminator. This card is awesome if you are able to tag this out successfully, but this card will become trash when it hits your hand. Always main one copy of this card in your deck.

4. GB Darius: Monster reborn version for GB. This card can help you to easily summon Gyzarus. Just dump your bestiari with your Elemental Hero Prisma, then tag Prisma with Test Tiger, and special summon this horse; its effect will revive the dumped Bestiari and jeng jeng jeng... Gyzarus is ready to clean the field. You can put one to two copy of this card in your deck; it depends on your taste.

5. GB Retiari: The shadow of GB deck. Having an ability to wipe your opponent's graveyard, this card can help you to remove annoying graveyard -based cards such as Dandylion, Plaguespreader Zombie, or Blackwing Vayu the Emblem of Honor. Main only one of this card because this card concept is just like Murmillo: awesome if you can tag it out successfully, but sucks if you draw it in your hand.

6. GB Equeste: The recycling machine of GB. Most players use this card to revitalize GB Chariot, but you can use this card to grab your fallen GB. Obviously main two copy of this card in your deck.

7. GB Samnite: This guy seems to be useless right because if the banning of Rescue Cat. Otherwise, you can combo this card with Rescue Cat. I will not use this card on my deck, but if you are still interested, you can main only one.

8. GB Secutor: This card is actually really cool. You can summon 2 fresh GB's from your deck after this card attacks or is attacked. Secutor can be a good engine to summon GB Heraklinos quickly. However, once you get this card in your hand, you will curse this card. Yes, this card has no ability to tag itself out. Thus, the only way to deal with this card when it reaches your hand is by using Test Tiger.

9. GB Hoplomus: This is a GB's fortress. Having 2100 defense, it is enough to block your opponent from performing further attack. However, this card is just awesome in the beginning of the game. Drawing this card in the mid or last game will be a bit useless since you will have to start your big play.

10. GB Gyzarus: The boss card in GB deck. having an ability to destroy up to 2 cards on the field and tag itself out, this card appears to be the bounty hunter of GB deck. Obviously, main 3 copies of this card in your extra deck.

11. GB Heraklinos: The winning condition of GB. If you can summon this card, hold 2 cards or more in your hand, and have a set of GB Chariot, you will be able to control the rest of your duel. Having 3000 attack and an ability to negate spell/trap cards effect, this card is awesome enough to protect your GB from your opponent's reverse cards.

12. GB Chariot: Divine Wrath for GB. This card seems to be staple in GB deck. Its ability to negate effect at no cost at all (you only have to control at least a GB on the field) is strong enough to lock your opponent from capitalizing monster's effects. Strongly suggested to main 3 copies of this card.

13. Test Tiger: GB's pet. This card helps you to tag out your GB's. Main 2-3 copies in your deck.

Well, I think that's all cards that are considered to be staples in GB deck. Next, let's discuss about related cards:

1. Elemental Hero Prisma: This card is used to summon Gyzarus easily. You only need to have this card and a single copy of Test Tiger, and you can make the threatening Gyzarus hits your field. Just be careful when you play this card because your opponent can chain a D.D. Crow to remove your dumped Bestiari from play and wreck your combo. Main 1 to 2 of this card in your deck; again, it depends on your taste. P.S. If you use 2 Prisma, it will be better to add Stratos too in your deck. However, this issue is a bit debatable because Stratos only has 1800 attack (he can be destroyed by cards such as Flamevell Dog or Kalut-boosted BW Shura), and also this card can make GB Chariot as a dead card if you use this card in the wrong timing.

2. GB Respite: I don't think this card is necessary in GB deck. Well, to be honest, you only get to main this card in your deck if you have a lot of GB in your deck (more than 15 GB, you will have to use it in order to avoid dead hand). I also suggest you to avoid using this card along with Prisma Combo (2 Prisma and 1 Stratos) because it will potentially lead you to a dead hand.

3. Waboku: Excellent card to protect your monsters from becoming destroyed. However, I tend to run 3 copies of Book of Moon or 2 BoM's and a Enemy Controller rather than this card. Remember, Royal Decree and Tra[ Stun can be found everywhere.

Allright, now let's discuss some supports for GB that have been released in OCG version:
1. GB Tegale: stronger version of Secutor (its inability to tag himself out is really similar with Secutor). This card is not so good unless you run a lot of GB monsters. In addition, you can't use this card to summon GB boss cards (Gyzarus and Heraklinos). This card is just like a monster version of Gladiator Proving Ground. I suggest you to main one copy in your deck.

2. GB Lanista: having attack as high as Laquari, this card is cool enough to be put in your deck. Also, its ability to change his name by removing from play a GB in your grave makes this card an emergency version of Bestiari. In addition, this card also makes Icarus Glads playable. Remember, you can have at least 5 Winged Beast type of GB in your deck (2 Equestes, 2 Lanistas, 1 Bestiari, and occasional Gyzarus)

As I promised you before, in this part I will give some examples of GB deck, check it out dude!
Prisma GLADS:
Monsters:(15)
2x E Hero Prisma
1x E Hero Stratos
2x GB Darius
2x GB Equeste
2x GB Laquari

1x GB Retiari
3x Test Tiger
Spells:(10)
1x Reinforcement of the Army

1x Monster Reborn

1x Solemn Warning
1x Solemn Judgment
1x Seven Tools of the Bandit
1x Compulsory Evacuation Device
1x Mirror Force
1x Torrential Tribute
2x Trap Stun

That's the sample of standard Prisma GB. You can still change that as much as you can. This deck doesn't need Mystical Space Typhoon. Cold Wave and Trunade are used to help you performing your big play safely. Trap Stun can be used to secure your GB from annoying traps such as prison or bth. Seven tools is effective enough to protect your GB, especially the boss cards from terrifying trap cards such as Solemn or Warning. Though Stratos is a dead card because he can't be used in accordance with GB Chariot, he is a nice bait to force your opponent to waste bth or prison or even warning (remember, E Hero Stratos is a +1 card).

The most important things that we need to keep in mind when we create a Prisma GB deck is to use as few monsters as possible. GB relies heavily on one for one trap cards (dimensional prison, bottomless traphole, or compulsory evacuation device) in order to remove opponent's monsters and launch attack in the following turn; thus, GB monsters can switch themselves.

Another example, but this time for GB that utilizes Respite:
Monsters:(16)
3x Test Tiger
2x GB Laquari
2x GB Equeste
1x GB Darius
1x GB Bestiari
1x GB Murmillo
1x GB Retiari
1x GB Secutor
1x GB Hoplomus
1x GB Tegale
1x GB Lanista
1x GB Prisma

Spells:(11)
3x GB Respite
3x Book of Moon
1x Gladiator Proving Ground
1x Cold Wave
1x Giant Trunade
1x Monster Reborn
1x Dark Hole

Traps:(14)
3x GB Chariot
2x Bottomless Trap Hole
2x Dimensional Prison
2x Trap Stun
1x Solemn Warning
1x Solemn Judgment
1x Torrential Tribute
1x Mirror Force
1x Seven Tools of the Bandit

The composition is almost the same with Prisma GLADS, but the difference is in the number of monster cards used. Basically, Prisma Glads is used to summon Gyzarus quickly and reduce your opponent's cards as much and fast as possible. Meanwhile, this type of deck is used to summon Heraklinos via Secutor to control the rest of the game. I personally don't feel comfortable when I have to use Prisma and Secutor at the same time.

Lastly, just a quick tips, GB is pretty fragile to cards such as Effect Veiler and Skill Drain.
Though those cards are annoying, I find a good way to get rid of them. Consider this example:
I summon Gyzarus via contact fusion and then target 2 cards on the field (assume we target one monster face up and one facedown card in spell/trap zone). Suddenly the targeted face down card is Skill Drain! My opponent's chain that card, then what should I do.
The answer is obvious: Make your Gyzarus is no longer face up on the field (cards such as: Compulsory, Book of Moon, Interdimensional, or Torrential can be used). Then, those cards will be resolved backwards, started from your last card that is used to chain your Gyzarus. Since your Gyzarus is no longer face up on the field, the effect of Skill Drain can no longer affect your Gyzarus. As a result, Gyzarus'effect will successfully resolve and destroy the selected cards.

Another misconception that players often think is when Skill Drain is face up on the field, we can't tag another GB out. Again, it is wrong. Since the effect of all GB monsters are resolved in your deck, Skill Drain CANNOT affect them. Skill Drain can only affect your GB once they hit the field FACE UP.

Your opponent cannot also chain Royal Oppression to a GB that has successfully been tagged out from the deck since the effect has been resolved in the deck.

Okay, that's all for today
